How to Build 1280×800 Chrome Extension Screenshots
The screenshot has one job: make a real extension feature understandable before someone installs it. Start with the real UI, then add only enough framing and copy to explain what the viewer is seeing.
1. Capture a clean real state
Use a populated but non-sensitive example that represents a normal workflow. Remove private URLs, API keys, personal messages, test junk, and anything you would not want copied into the public listing.
2. Build on a 1280×800 frame
Give the UI enough space to remain legible. Reserve a consistent area for one headline and one supporting callout instead of shrinking the application until the interface becomes decoration.
3. One screenshot, one outcome
A workspace manager might show Save Workspace, then Restore, then Search as separate frames. A credential tool might show local vault organization, environment mapping, and backup/restore separately. This gives each feature a readable visual proof point.
4. Keep callouts factual
Say what the screenshot proves: “Restore windows and native tab groups,” not “Revolutionize productivity.” Use exact features already present in the release and avoid claims the image cannot support.
5. Export and inspect at small size
Before upload, view the export smaller than full screen. Confirm the headline, primary interface state, and important callout remain readable. Also confirm the image is exactly 1280×800 or another accepted store size and is not needlessly huge.
