eXhibit Capture Privacy Policy
Effective date: October 23, 2026
eXhibit Capture is designed as a local-first capture workspace. This policy explains what stays on your device and what is processed when you use Pro licensing.
Overview
eXhibit Capture helps you capture web content, screenshots, and screen recordings while keeping source context with saved work. Capture content is designed to stay on your device by default. The extension does not automatically upload saved captures, screenshots, recordings, notes, tags, or exports to planet.X.
This policy describes local processing, Pro license-related data, supporting service providers, and the choices available to you.
Information stored on your device
When you deliberately use a capture feature, eXhibit Capture may process and save the source page URL and title, source metadata and capture time; selected text or readable page content; screenshot pixels, selected regions, full-page images, or recordings you initiate; notes, tags, edit metadata, evidence identifiers and provenance hashes; and extension preferences, the local History index, and prompt-dismissal state.
Captures and related records are stored in Chrome-managed extension storage and IndexedDB on your device. They are not automatically uploaded to planet.X or a cloud library. Exported files are handled by the destination you choose and may remain there after you delete a History item.
eXhibit Capture does not add a separate encryption layer to locally stored captures. Protect your computer and Chrome profile, and only capture material you have permission to store.
Screen recording and microphone audio
Recording starts only after you invoke the recording control and choose and confirm a source in Chrome’s native picker. You choose the tab, application window, or screen to share; the extension does not silently start recording.
If you enable microphone audio, Chrome and your operating system may request relevant permissions. Audio availability depends on Chrome, the selected recording surface, and your device. Recordings stay local unless you explicitly export or share them.
Pro license activation and verification
When you activate, verify, or deactivate a Pro license, the extension sends the product identifier and requested action, the license key you enter, a random installation/device identifier stored locally, and a signed license token when available to the planet.X licensing API over HTTPS.
The extension stores the license key and token in Chrome-managed local storage so it can re-verify entitlement. Deactivation removes the stored license record; the device identifier may remain until you clear extension data or uninstall the extension.
The planet.X licensing service checks the license with Payhip. Hosting and security infrastructure may process connection IP addresses and ordinary request metadata for security and operations. Captured page content, screenshots, recordings, notes, and tags are not sent as part of license verification.
Pro entitlement is granted only after the licensing service confirms it. A temporary connection or provider failure does not cause saved captures to be uploaded or intentionally deleted.
Payments and third-party services
Payhip processes Pro checkout and provides the license-validation service used by the planet.X gateway. Payment-card details are handled by Payhip; the extension does not receive or store card details.
The planet.X licensing service receives the license-related fields described above and returns license status. Hosting and security providers may generate standard operational logs, and a Supabase-hosted rate-limit/security control may receive an IP address and rate-limit metadata. Captured content is not sent to these systems for analytics or advertising.
Google Chrome provides extension APIs, browser-managed storage, and the native screen-source picker under its own platform behavior and policies. Third-party services process information under their own terms and privacy practices.
Permissions and website access
activeTab supports access to the active tab after you invoke a capture action; scripting runs capture helpers on the page you choose; storage saves local settings, History index, license state, and the generated device identifier; sidePanel displays the capture workspace; planet.X host access contacts the licensing API; and optional HTTP/HTTPS website access can enable one-click website capture when you grant it.
Website content is processed for the capture feature you explicitly request. The extension does not continuously collect browsing history or send page content for unrelated purposes.
Analytics, advertising, and sale of data
The extension does not include an analytics or advertising SDK. It does not sell captured content, use it for personalized advertising, or transfer it to data brokers. Information accessed through Chrome permissions is used to provide the capture, local History, and licensing functions described in this policy.
Retention and deletion
Local captures remain in History until you delete them, clear extension data, or remove the extension. Exported files may remain where you saved them. Stored license keys and tokens can be removed by deactivating the license; the generated device identifier may remain until extension storage is cleared or the extension is removed.
Payhip may retain purchase and license records under its policies. planet.X and service providers may retain limited licensing, security, and operational records as needed to validate licenses, enforce activation limits, prevent abuse, maintain the service, and comply with law. No fixed retention period is promised here.
To remove local captures, delete items from History before clearing extension data or uninstalling. Export anything you need to preserve first. The extension does not provide cloud backup or cross-device sync for captures.
Security
License requests use HTTPS. Captures are stored in browser-managed local storage rather than uploaded to a planet.X capture database. No local or network storage method can be guaranteed perfectly secure; keep Chrome and your operating system updated and protect access to your device.
Changes to this policy
This policy may be updated when the extension’s data practices or supporting services change. The effective date identifies the current published version. Material changes to data handling must also be reflected in the extension and Chrome Web Store disclosures before release.
